Welcome
Our three timber chalets stand on the Sonnenterrasse above the Riedener Waldsee, framed by forest. The Traumpfade trails of the Eifel begin at the door, and behind the house your own sauna is waiting. In between lies exactly what you came for: nothing you have to do.
Our holiday homes
All three stand side by side on the Sonnenterrasse, and all three have a sauna, a whirlpool bath and a wood-burning stove. The difference is the size and how many people are coming with you.

Wellness at your door
No shared time slots, no booking in advance, no other people’s towels. Every one of our homes has its own outdoor sauna on the fenced terrace. Add to that a whirlpool bath in the bathroom and a wood-burning stove in the living area, with the firewood already laid out.
Bathrobes and the sauna infusion kit are ready for you. Please bring your own sauna towels.
The Waldsee Rieden
Rieden lies in the Laacher See volcanic region, right in the heart of the Osteifel. We are only a few minutes from the lake and from the first walking trails.
Rieden lies in the Laacher See volcanic region, right in the heart of the Osteifel. The Laacher See is the crater of a volcano that last erupted around 13,000 years ago.
It is around 150 metres to the Riedener Waldsee. The bathing beach, the lawn and the playground are all within walking distance.
The Al Lago is around 4 minutes away, the Eifeler Seehütte around 8 minutes. Both welcome dogs too.
The Traumpfad Waldseepfad Rieden starts around 100 metres from the house. The Eifel is known for its premium walking trails.
Everything within walking distance
Two restaurants are within walking distance. For days out in the Eifel and on the Moselle, your car is right outside the door, with an EV charging point.
What our guests say
“We really enjoyed the peace and quiet and the lovely weather. Our Puschel took it all in his stride too. Even the reunion with the dog family went really well. The house is lovely. PS: I loved the hooded beach chair, I had no idea how cosy one of those is.”
“It was wonderful here. We enjoyed our stay and will certainly be back. You get a lovely view of the lake from the house.”
“Thank you so much for the lovely place to stay and for the wonderful days we were able to spend here. We felt completely at home. The weather was beautiful, we explored the area and had a great time. Thank you and all the very best.”
Your hosts
Our three holiday homes are waiting for you on the Sonnenterrasse at Waldsee Rieden. For many years now we have made it our business to give our guests a properly relaxed break. One thing matters most to us: that you feel at home from the very first moment.
That starts with what is in the houses. Each one has its own outdoor sauna, a whirlpool bath and a wood-burning stove, with the firewood already laid out for you. Bed linen, towels and bathrobes are included as a matter of course. A cot and a high chair are free of charge, and your dog is welcome too.
Magazine
Castles, maars (crater lakes), walking trails and the Moselle. We write about the places we recommend to our own guests.
Plenty of places advertise “Dogs welcome" and mean this: your dog may come along, but costs ten euros a night, has to stay on the lead indoors and in the garden anyway …

If you come across the Waldsee Rieden while searching for a holiday home in the Eifel, you usually end up on portals listing dozens of places to stay. Here it is more manageable: three homes, one plot of land, one host.
Our address is Sonnenterrasse, 56745 Rieden, Eifel. The three homes stand side by side on the slope above the Riedener Waldsee, around 150 metres on foot from the shore. The forest begins behind the terraces, and the Traumpfad Waldseepfad Rieden starts at the door. The Laacher See is 13 kilometres away, Maria Laach Abbey 16, Mayen 13 and the Nürburgring 22. You can see exactly where we are on the map on our Getting Here page.
There are a fair few holiday flats and places to stay around the Waldsee. Our three timber chalets are not a holiday park complex with a reception desk: each house stands on its own, with its own driveway and its own fenced terrace, plus garden furniture, a barbecue and a hooded beach chair. You share nothing here with other guests.
“Wellness” appears in a lot of listings. What it often means is a shared sauna or an infrared cabin, which technically is not a sauna at all, because it radiates heat at the body instead of heating the air. Here, every house has a free-standing outdoor sauna on its own terrace, with no opening hours and no need to book. Add to that a whirlpool bath in the bathroom, a level-access shower, a wood-burning stove with firewood, and free Wi-Fi in every room.
Holiday Home Susi has two bedrooms and room for two to four guests; Annika and Tommy each have three bedrooms for two to six people. A cot and a high chair are free of charge, babies stay free, and up to two dogs travel free of charge. For children, the bathing beach, the lawn and the playground by the lake are all within walking distance.
The Eifel is one of Germany’s best-known walking regions, and what makes Rieden such an appealing destination is how much lies within a short drive: the Laacher See with the 12th-century Maria Laach Abbey, the Vulkanpark sites in Mendig and Mayen with the basalt lava mine, the Genovevaburg and the Moselle. If you would rather stay put, swim in the lake or head to the Eifeler Seehütte or the Al Lago in the evening, both within walking distance. We collect our recommendations in the Magazine, so do have a browse at your leisure.
You can arrive Monday to Saturday from 15:00, departure is by 10:00, and the minimum stay is three nights. The price depends on the house, the season and the number of nights. Choose your dates in the calendar and you will see the total price before you book, direct with us and with no portal fees. What applies to the deposit and to cancellations is set out in the FAQs and in our Terms & Conditions. What guests mention most often in their reviews is not the facilities but the peace and quiet. Recovery here comes less from a programme of activities than from the nature all around and from the chance to spend a day planning nothing at all. If there is anything else you would like to know that is not covered here, do give us a call.

Choose your dates, see the total price, book. You book with no agency in between, no portal fees and instant confirmation.
