Sustainability and local sourcing

What is genuinely
local here

We are not promising you an eco-label or a carbon footprint calculation. We will tell you what actually happens here, and what you get out of it.

Holiday homes like to advertise how sustainable they are. Usually that comes down to a card about reusing your towels and a photo of a meadow. We do it differently: this page sets out what we actually do, and what we deliberately do not claim.

In the middle of protected countryside

The houses stand in the Rhein-Ahr-Eifel protected landscape area, and the nature reserve around the Gänsehals begins next door. That is not an award we bought ourselves, it is simply where we are. It brings rules with it that we keep to, and paths that you can walk straight from the door.

The car stays where it is

Two restaurants, the bathing beach, the playground and the first Traumpfad are all within walking distance. Bäckerei Hilger and Metzgerei Rausch are in Rieden. If you like, you can park the car when you arrive and not touch it again until you leave.

In practice

What we do

An EV charging point at every house

You charge your electric car right outside the door. No detour to the nearest charging station, no app, no roaming tariff.

Firewood from the region

The firewood for the wood-burning stoves comes from the surrounding area and is already waiting in the house. You do not have to buy it or carry it there.

Shopping in the village

The Bäckerei Hilger bakery on Oberstraße and the Metzgerei Rausch butcher on Kirchstraße are both in Rieden, a few minutes away.

Eating out in the village

The Eifeler Seehütte and the Al Lago are both local businesses. Both are within walking distance and both take dogs, the Al Lago on the terrace.

A welcome gift from the neighbourhood

The wine and the specialities waiting on the table when you arrive come from the region.

Linen and towels

We provide bed linen, towels and bathrobes. Please bring your own sauna towels.

Built to last

Solid timber houses rather than prefabricated ones. The living area is on one level, so that the houses will still work for everyone in twenty years’ time.

Booking direct

Book direct with us and you pay no portal fees. The money stays in the business instead of going to a platform.

Honestly

What we do not claim

We have no sustainability certificate. We do not present you with a carbon footprint, and we do not offset anything we have not measured. Almost all our guests arrive by car, because the Waldsee is hard to reach by bus or train. That is the reality of a holiday region in the Eifel.

What we can influence, we do: short distances on foot, charging points at the house, shops and restaurants in the village, houses built to last. Anything else would just be a claim, and we think claims are the wrong way to build trust.
