Adventure: the brilliant Teufelsschlucht dinosaur park

Set off on an expedition with the whole family. More than 620 million years of the Earth’s history await you at the Teufelsschlucht dinosaur park. You begin in the Devonian, 420 million years ago, with the first creature to live on land, the Ichthyostega, and end up 200 million years in the future.

Along the 2 km circular route you will find more than 170 life-size dinosaurs.

Tyrannosaurus rex, Stegosaurus or the lesser-known Eifelsaurus — they are all waiting to be discovered by you and your children. The Seismosaurus is a particularly impressive sight: at 45 metres long and over 8 metres high, it is the largest dinosaur model in Europe. Another star of the park is the Dilophosaurus. The fossils of this predator were found in Luxembourg, and the bony crest on its head is especially striking.

The sheer size and the faithful detail of the reconstructions make this a day out you will not forget. Every model and every scene reflects the current state of scientific research.

Information boards, the audio guide, the Forschercamp research camp and the PALEO LAB make sure everyone goes home knowing a good deal more.

If you would like to know more, the Dino-Kino cinema is worth a visit. It shows a constant run of lovingly made short films about dinosaurs and their world.

The Dinos Diner is the place to refuel for the next adventure, and from there you can keep an eye on the children on the woodland playground right next door. The dinosaur park and the area around it

The Teufelsschlucht dinosaur park lies in the Südeifel, in the village of Ernzen, close to the border between Germany and Luxembourg. Just a few metres from the park you will find the Naturparkzentrum Teufelsschlucht nature park centre. Superb walking routes start from there. The Felsenweg 2 has been voted the second finest walking trail in Germany. The Teufelsschlucht captivates you with rock faces metres high and vast boulders — and, of course, with the dark, narrow gorge itself.

The Laacher Seetal valley lies between the Rhine, the Moselle and the Ahr, within the largest nature reserve in Rhineland-Palatinate. The Traumpfad Pellenzer Seepfad and the Wingertsbergwand near Mendig deserve a particular mention.

The Laacher See and Maria Laach Abbey

At 3.3 km2 and more than 50 m deep, the Laacher See is the largest lake in Rhineland-Palatinate. Maria Laach Abbey on its shore was founded in 1093 and is still home to a Benedictine community today. The great abbey church is the most impressive sight on the extensive monastery grounds.

The dinosaur park is open daily from mid-March to early November, and from 10:00 to 18:00 in high season. Towards the end of the season the hours are shorter. The opening times for the day are published at dinopark-teufelsschlucht.de (as at August 2026).

If you are coming at the edge of the season, it is worth a look at the website first: in late autumn the park closes as early as 17:00.
